A Marzuki Morning

There was no one around so I trespassed into the art students' workshop one weekend at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Cikini, central Jakarta.
TIM, Jakarta's cultural institute, was named after Indonesian composer and national hero Ismail Marzuki.
Over at a small amphitheatre within the TIM grounds, LKB Saraswati, a Balinese arts group, hold weekly open-air Balinese dance classes for Indonesians and foreigners.
Perfection is in the details.
Giving accompaniment to the dance class were a group of student musicians learning traditional gamelan instruments.
With all the wall art and seemingly overlooked sculptures and pots of paint throughout the grounds, TIM's a pretty good place for a Sunday morning stroll.

  1. Wow. I love TIM. And this is quite relevant for me now, as Balinese dance is really kicking my butt!
